Lana Sirri

Dr. Lana Sirri is an assistant professor in Gender and Religion at the Centre for Gender and Diversity (CGD) at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. She completed her Ph.D. studies at the Centre for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin in 2017. Her research lies at the intersection of religion and gender and critically explores Islamic feminist thought, emphasizing its historical development and its diverse theoretical frameworks and methodologies. Lana has published articles on the topic of Islamic feminism and Muslim feminist thought. She also completed a book titled “Einführung in den Islamischen Feminismus” (2017, 2020) which introduces Islamic feminism to a non-academic audience of German-speaking activists. Lana is an associated expert of the Centre for Intersectional Justice and is a co-founder of the Berlin Muslim Feminist Group and the Black and PoC Academic Network in Germany.
 

• Islamic Feminism: challenges, contestations and decoloniality.

  Islamic feminism is a field of study that has been marginalized both in contemporary Islamic discourse and in feminist discourse. This lecture counters this marginalization by presenting the diversity of approaches used in Islamic feminist scholarship. It takes a decolonial intersectional perspective to examine the different strategies Muslim and Islamic feminists have developed to challenge constellations of power, such as sexism, religious extremism, and the growing anti-Muslim racism in Europe.

Shenila Khoja-Moolji

Prof. Dr. Shenila Khoja-Moolji is Assistant Professor of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at Bowdoin College. She is an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersections of feminist theory, cultural studies, and Islamic studies. Her research interests include, Muslim girlhood(s), masculinities and sovereignty, and Ismaili Muslim women's history. She investigates these topics empirically in relation to Muslims in Pakistan, the United States, and Canada. Professor Khoja-Moolji is the author of award-winning book, "Forging the Ideal Educated Girl: The Production of Desirable Subjects in Muslim South Asia". The book combines historical and cultural studies analyses with ethnographic work to examine the figure of the ‘educated girl’ in colonial India and postcolonial Pakistan.
 

• Enacting a Decolonial Praxis in Teacher Training: Lessons from Pakistan.
  Umsetzung einer dekolonialen Praxis in der Lehrendenbildung: Lehren aus Pakistan
   

  Focusing on a specific case of teacher professional development workshops in Pakistan, and drawing on the methodology of narrative inquiry, in this talk Professor Khoja-Moolji outlines some of the pedagogical (re)encounters that she created to reclaim local knowledge ecologies. It entailed examining the current moment of coloniality; an active reengagement with local landscapes, intellectual productions, and teacher selves; and, becoming hunarmand (skillful) in taking up, twisting, and molding dominant pedagogical models toward anti- and decolonial ends.

Asma Aiad (Moderation)

Asma Aiad ist Künstlerin, Aktivistin, Jugendarbeiterin & Sprecherin des Black Voices Volksbegehren. Ihren Bachelor absolvierte sie in Politikwissenschaft. Zurzeit studiert sie an der Akademie für bildende Künste und schließt ihren Master in Gender Studies mit dem Schwerpunkt Islamischer Feminismus ab. In ihrer aktivistischen und künstlerischen Arbeit beschäftigt sie sich mit Antirassismus, Feminismus und der Dekonstruktion von Stereotypen.

Format: alle Blöcke mit inhaltlichen Inputs werden online stattfinden, ein Link wird im Vorfeld jedes Blocks an alle Angemeldeten gesendet. Die Workshops und Lesekreise werden in Linz im Willy*Fred – Haus/das kollektiv stattfinden, bei Interesse können sie auch online besucht werden.

Sprache: Die Veranstaltungssprache wird Deutsch sein. Sollte jemand gern die Veranstaltung besuchen, jedoch Übersetzung in einer anderen Sprache benötigen, werden wir versuchen, diese vor Ort zu organisieren, wenn die Person im Willy*Fred Haus/das kollektiv an der Veranstaltung teilnimmt. Wir bitten um eine Angabe bei der Anmeldung.
